Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon - A trusted advisor of King Charles II, Hyde was also an advisor to his father. His daughter, Anne, married Charles II's brother James. Upon the Restoration, Charles II made him an Earl and the Chief Minister. He negotiated Charles' marriage to Queen Catherine, which would ultimately hurt his reputation as she turned out to be barren. Public opinion turned against him after a series of political missteps in the middle of the decade and by 1667, he was forced to give up his post and be exiled in France.
